Alex (Luke Wilson) is a writer with a serious gambling problem. He hires Emma (Kate Hudson) to force him to write a novel on which he has taken an advance of $50,000 to pay off his debts, and has agreed to sign away everything he writes for the rest of his life to his publisher if he doesn't make a deadline. It is a love story, and Alex and Emma fall in love as Alex recovers from another problem - writer's block!

A trendy group of friends and family attended the premiere: Kate's mom Goldie Hawn, brother Oliver Hudson, and husband Chris Robinson; director Rob Reiner and his dad Carl; Albert Brooks; and Pete Sampras and wife Bridgette Wilson-Sampras. A very happy group ended up at the White Lotus for an after-premiere party.
