Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood
June 3, 2002
Village Theatre, Westwood
A group of longtime friends - the Ya-Ya Sisterhood - stage
an unorthodox intervention to help one of the "Sisters"
let go of her painful past. Sandra Bullock is a playwright
who has asked them to help her do this hoping for forgiveness
and acceptance from her mother. The setting is in a sleepy
Louisiana parish, and has a great cast to bring on tears and
laughter - Ellen Burstyn, the mother, Ya-Ya's Ashley Judd
and Shirley Knight, and James Garner who said, "This
is not just a chick flick, it's for guys, too." "We
leaned on our sorority sisters for a lot of insight,"
said Judd.
At the after-party were director Callie Khouri and producer
Bonnie Bruckheimer, cast members Bullock, Knight, Judd, Fionnula
Flanagan, Kiersten Warren and Angus MacFadyen, and Cuba Gooding
Jr., Christine Lahti, Dennis Quaid and Minnie Driver.
