In this comedy-action film, Robert DeNiro is a no-nonsense LAPD detective forced to appear on a reality-based TV show designed to boost the image of the police department.

His partner is a frustrated actor turned patrolman, Eddie Murphy, and Rene Russo is a powerhouse producer who, along with her very aggressive camera crew, manages to turn the lives of both policemen into a living nightmare. William Shatner plays himself in the film. Director Tom Dey said, "It's like taking two Great Danes out for a walk and you have a piece of string for a leash!" Exec producer Will Smith said he stayed out of their way, "and let them be brilliant!"
