Jimmy Smith, Jr. (Eminem) and his mother (Kim Basinger) live
on the wrong side of 8 Mile, a psychological boundary in Detroit.
Jimmy has dreams of getting out and becoming "someone."
The film tells the story of one week of his life as he fights
to get out of the indifference and decay of the city. Others
in the cast are Eugene Byrd, Mekhi Phifer and Brittany Murphy.
Prior to the screenings at both the Bruin and the Village
Theatres, the show outside was a crowd pleaser for the screaming
fans, starting with Eminem's stepping out of his limo onto
a block-long red carpet surrounded by his bodyguards "as
big as SUVs"!
The after-party was held in a huge circus tent and was another
show in itself. A few of the celebs there were Kid Rock with
Pamela Anderson, Avril Lavigne and Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Christina
Aguilera, Macy Gray, Lucy Liu, Matthew Perry and cast members
De'Angelo Wilson, Taryn Manning and Anthony Mackie.
